Send a Referral
Click Add Referral on the Referrals page (or the New Referral button on the Dashboard) to open the create dialog.
Step 1 — Pick the patient
Start typing the patient’s name. Existing patients appear in the dropdown — pick one to reuse their record. If they’re new, click Create new patient and fill in their details inline.
Step 2 — Pick the recipient
Choose the practice you’re referring to. Canairy suggests practices from your Network first, but you can also search for any practice on the platform.
If the practice isn’t on Canairy yet, you have two options:
- Invite them — sends them an invitation to join. See Network → Invites.
- Send by email anyway — the referral goes to their office email as a PDF attachment. It still lives in your Canairy referrals list, but the other side won’t have a Canairy account.
Step 3 — Fill in the referral
- Reason — why you’re referring (free text)
- Diagnosis codes — ICD-10 codes, searchable by code or name
- Urgency — routine, urgent, or stat
- Attachments — any supporting documents
Step 4 — Send
Click Send Referral. The recipient practice sees it in their inbox (or email, if they’re off-platform), and you’ll find it in your Active tab on the Referrals page.
After sending
You can:
- Follow up directly from the referral detail page (add notes, attach documents, create tasks)
- See status updates as the receiving practice works on it
- View the full journey history
