Referrals
The Referrals page lists patient journeys with a referral leg sent or received by your practice. Each row represents a journey, which can contain more than one referral leg as care moves between practices.
Tabs
- All — all journeys returned for your practice, regardless of journey status.
- Active — journeys whose status is open.
- Scheduled — journeys whose latest visible referral leg is scheduled.
- Completed — journeys marked completed.
Scheduled and completed are separate states. A scheduled referral does not automatically belong in Completed. There is no separate Cancelled tab in the current page.
Tab counts describe the loaded journeys. The heading also summarizes active journeys, journeys whose latest visible leg needs review, and journeys with more than one linked submission. These counts do not change when you type in the search box or use the urgency filter.
Find a referral
Use Search in referrals to search within the selected tab. Search matches patient name, MRN, referral reason, specialty, destination practice, or payer.
Toggle Urgency: Urgent + Semi to show urgent, emergent, and semi-urgent journeys. Toggle it again to clear the filter. Search and urgency filtering work together.
What each row shows
- Patient — name, available demographics, MRN, and payer. A submissions badge appears when more than one submission is linked.
- Presentation — referral reason and available diagnosis codes.
- Referred to — specialty and destination from the latest visible leg. A linked practice name opens its Network view.
- Urgency — the journey’s urgency.
- Status — the latest visible leg’s status, which can differ from the overall journey status used by Active and Completed.
- Source — intake method and sending provider from the earliest visible leg.
- Updated — the latest received date among your practice’s visible legs, shown as relative time and a date. This is not a timestamp for every edit to the journey.
Click a row to open the journey detail page. Review its referral history and the available documents, tasks, and messages there. A PDF is only available when a document is attached.
Adding a referral
Choose Add referral in the top-right. See Send a Referral for creating and forwarding a referral.
Journeys can also appear after a submission is approved in the Referral Inbox, including structured submissions from a connected Canairy Intelligence client. An unapproved Inbox submission is separate from this list.
See Referral Lifecycle for journey and referral-leg states.
Receiving decisions and diagnosis codes
On a journey addressed to your practice, review the source information and status history before choosing Accept & create intake. Acceptance updates the receiving referral’s status; the overall journey can remain open for follow-up.
Use ICD or Add ICD to search for a documented diagnosis code. Check the
code and description, then choose Add Code. This records a manual entry; it
does not establish that an AI extraction occurred. The interface may display a
code without its clinical dot, such as R002 for R00.2.
